Dubai Midnight Marathon shows security of city

Nearly 10,000 youth participated Thursday in the Dubai Midnight Marathon, which is aimed at showing the safety of the tourism environment of the emirate.
The unique marathon began at 00:00 midnight (local time) on Thursday at the foot of the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, where some 10,000 youngsters from 120 countries participated in the 3.2 kilometer run.
Instead of competing for speed, most participants enjoyed the sporting event while appreciating the intoxicating night scenes of Dubai.
“It’s my first experience to run in midnight, and I think it will be fun, I’m so excited,” said participant Hasan Omar.
Competitors ran in downtown Dubai and passed some landmark buildings including Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Shopping Center.
With the slogan “Safety Definitely Dubai,” the event aimed at providing an opportunity for people to enjoy the beautiful night cityscape and positioning Dubai as a safe tourism destination.
“We are saying Dubai is the safest city in the world, not only that, the people are happy. Everybody [is] happy here, that’s why we are saying the safest city is in Dubai,” said Sathar Al Karan, founder of the Dubai Midnight Marathon.

It is the first time for Dubai to hold the midnight marathon, and the full-length Midnight Marathon will take place next year, according to the organizers. (CCTV)
